Chairs and other stuff

If you are a junker like I am, you usually are a collector. Your collection will evolve and change over the years. I've had phases of certain things, but then I've sold them. I used to love pink pottery and would buy it if the price is right, but I've moved on from that. However there are some things that I still love and collect and have been for years. One of them is chairs. I know that's a tough thing to collect, but alas that is my fate. It just means I have a really full garage, and I'm constantly rotating them in and out of my house. I love chairs! I also love vintage children's chairs.

Lucky for you I've decided to put my chair collection to good use. Here is a sampling of chairs available to rent at my vintage rental business.

Another thing that I've loved and collected for years is vintage dishes. I love it all...fiesta, pyrex, hull, lusterware, melamac, you name it. I also have a cute vintage syrup dispenser collection and juice glasses like you wouldn't believe.

I personally love going into a home of a collector. You can tell a lot about a person from the items they surround themselves with. What do you like to collect?

Getting ready for Market

Do you love to make things using vintage materials? I do! One of my favorite vintage items to use are wonderful old wooden spools. I use them for cake toppers as well as little inspiration sculptures. I'll be bringing my spool creations.

I love old books and will be bringing some cool ones to sell.
I love vintage kid chairs. Do you think I should bring some to Bijou?

Have you thought about Christmas yet? Have you made a list? Does it include some vintage items for that special someone? Let me know, I may have just what you are looking for.

Bijou Market

I was excited to find out that I was accepted into the Bijou Market in November. I've never done this show before and I have some awesome vintage goodies to bring to the market. Here's a little preview:

I bought these ties from a woman whose father was a tie salesman for Nordstrom's in the 70's. They are in perfect condition and so very vintage! I'll be selling them for $6-10 each.

A lovely collection of vintage slips bought at a recent estate sale. These beauties will sell for $10 each.
I'll be posting some more items for sale in the next few days and weeks. Lot's of vintage goodies just in time for some awesome Christmas presents.

Mark your calendars: November 16 and 17 in downtown Provo.

3 Dotters Vintage Rentals

I've been really busy as usual, but there is one thing that has been taking up time that I am really excited to share about.

I am a lover of all things vintage. I also love planning parties and events. You can see some of my past parties here and here. I've had a pretty varied creative life so far. I work full time in theatre and you would think that would be enough creativity for one person, but NO I have found that I have always needed to nurture all creative aspects I am into.

I have always loved to craft and have had various business's: I did a fairy costume business with my mom, then I went out on my own. I had a business making a lot of custom crowns and jewelry using vintage materials. Vintage is the key. I have always loved searching in piles of junk for that elusive treasure. I am partners in a very successful flea market (FLEAOLOGY) that has grown tremendously in the last two years. VINTAGE has become my passion.

A year or so ago I had an idea to open a vintage rental business. I talked with my husband and friends and everyone said it was a great idea. I have let many people borrow my vintage finds for their own events and thought it could be a really fun business. Time went by and I got caught up with life's other projects, but this idea was always in the back of my mind.

My husband brought it up again and with his help we have decided to go for it!! We rented a storage space, got the garage organized and we are in business! I have a dear friend who is an amazing photographer who is helping with pictures of my inventory.

We have a facebook page (3 dotters Vintage rentals) and I would love for you to LIKE us!  I am hoping to have our website up in the next few months.

I am so excited to be doing this business and to share my love of all things vintage with people. I really think vintage items can add such a flair to a party or event and make it truly unique.

I'm posting some of the items we have and pictures from a recent photo shoot.

Instagram

I have neglected my blog, but life just got the better of me!
I must confess I also have a new little obsession...called INSTAGRAM. So since I have taken the summer off from blogging, I'm just going to catch up with some of my instagram photos.

Fleaology is this weekend! Come join us if you can!

So here is my summer INSTAGRAM style!

I directed All Shook Up at the Shell this summer. Loved my cast, had a blast doing the show!

Junking with my friends Cathie and Paula on Fridays!

Hanging with the dotters and their exhausted father.

Attending fun concerts. (Shawn Colvin in Park City, love her!)

The dotter's and I hit a few art festivals and craft fairs.

Attended a few really lovely, lovely weddings.

Tried not to eat to many cupcakes at my favorite cupcake shop this summer.

Helped produce our first neighborhood musical this summer! Was a huge success. Everyone's asking what we are doing next year. Oh my!

Celebrated 17 years with my wonderful hubby.

More junking.....

Always re-decorating......

Summer went by so fast and before you know it we were in school again.

I hope you had a wonderful summer too!

Utah Art's Festival and other Summer Adventures

Is the summer flying by for you? It is for us....

We are producing our first neighborhood musical. We are doing Suessical Jr.

Bronwyn and 2 other girls from the neighborhood are directing and I and the 2 moms are acting as producers. They are rehearsing 2 times a week with over 40 kids in the production! I snapped this picture at the last rehearsal.  Pretty cute huh? Bronwyn is teaching them the music. It does help that she has been in the production before.  Like mother like dotter.....

This past weekend we went to the Utah Art's Festival. We have been every year since we moved to Utah. This makes our 5th one. It has become tradition and something the dotter's look forward to. We love all the art and the interesting people. I never cease to get inspired by something I see and I get great ideas. Nat and I are directing a puppet piece for BYU in a 1 1/2 years and saw these amazing human/puppets. Got the ideas flowing.....

And last but not least, I am directing All Shook Up at the SCERA Shell. I have had a blast and have loved working with such talented actors, dancers and singers! Come see the show if you are in Utah! July 6-21. Here are 4 of the leads below, posing for a quick i-phone pic during our publicity photo shoot.

Bella's room.....a THRIFT love story

Since we have moved to our new house I have slowly been trying to decorate. It has taken me much longer this time, usually I know exactly what I want to do. I've been trying to work on my 2 youngest dotter's rooms and Bella and I finally made it come together this weekend. After rehearsal on Saturday she and I got to work. It took a while to gather all the components but Bella and I were really pleased with the results. So I now present you.....BELLA'S PERFECTLY THRIFTED ROOM.

All components of her room were either bought at thrift stores, estate sales, yard sales or flea markets or trades with wonderful artists.

Okay here is her bed which I think turned out pretty cute. This is a pallet bed. You can find a lot of cute ideas on Pinterest and I have seen a few out there. This is a twin mattress on 2 pallets. My handy hubby cut them to the right size for me. The headboard is a really cool old door that I bought from my friend Cathie. The pillows were made from fabric bought at Fleaology and Beehive Bazaar. The adorable handmade Teddy was a trade I did with a vendor at Beehive Bazaar. She wanted one of my necklaces and I wanted her bear. The afghan was a $2 bargain at Savers (thrift store). The chenille bedspread from the Pasadena City College flea market for $25. The white frame $5 from my friend Cathie, the cool letter B from Fleaology dealer Jeanine for $10. The colored doilies were $2 each from Fleaology dealer Bruce.

Our sweet older dotter, Michelle made this pillow for Bella for Christmas. It sits on this vintage child's chair that I got at Treasures Antique Mall for $10.
This was a recent acquisition from a barn sale I attended with friend. I laid my eyes on it and knew it had to be mine. For $55 I got to take it home. Isn't a hen house the perfect place for her beloved stuffed animals? This is not a girl who loves dolls. It's all about the animals. FYI...most of them have names!

I love old toys and we decided to put some in Bella's room. This cool old dollhouse from the 60's was a yard sale find.

This is a collection of old  A Child's Garden of Verses books. They are so sweet and so totally vintage. I snagged them at a Fleaology sale last year. All for $20!

This Fisher Price Barn set took me right back to my childhood. I saw this at a recent yard sale and knew Bella would love it too! It also looks really cute in her room.

This is a picture of her perfectly shabby dresser bought from my friend Brandon for $40. The books and toys look so cute on top!

Here is an overall picture. A few more things to mention. The cute floral rug was a DI (thrift store) find for $8. The table that the doll house sits on was a $30 Savers (thrift store) find. The cute little metal table was a Fleaology find for $8. The chalkware lamp my friend Cathie dug out of a garage and I bought for $25.

I think the room turned out sweet and charming and Bella loves it. I'm also pretty proud of my thrifty ways! What do you think?

Hope you have a great week!

Summer Weekend Fun

Thought I would do a quick post and share some of my weekend fun with you. If you know me it probably has a strong vintage and junk element to it.

First....

My quick flea market garden idea:

Okay, so my dad gave me this old Schwinn bike that used to belong to my great aunt. I'm thinking it's the 70's and it needed a lot of work. So I've been trying to get my hubby to fix it again but it just wasn't happening. I think it needed more work than it was worth. But I still thought it had a cool retro look about it and I wanted to hang on to it. (I know, it's a sickness! :) So I had recently acquired some cool wood crates and as I was sitting out in my yard it hit me that I needed to join the two together! I think it turned out pretty cute and it fits my whole idea of "flea market gardening". I just wired the crate to the front of the bike and went to the nursery and found some shade loving plants that just flowed out of the crate.

Pretty cute huh?

Second.....

I went estate sale shopping with my bestie Cathie and had so much fun as always. We hit a few yard sales and of course I found this......

Now you all may not know my love affair with vintage sofas...let's just say I have a serious problem  and it is really difficult to pass one up. (Yes, yes I have 2 sitting in my garage and a few in the house.) Especially one that looks this good and was a great deal. ($70) I've been looking for a sofa for our great room that was more comfortable than the one we had in there. This fit the bill perfectly. And have I told you how much I love red? I couldn't pass it up. I love those sofas, they have so much character. And wouldn't it look awesome in a family picture?

Third.......

I was able to procure some more vintage games from the flea market this past Saturday. My good friend Bruce gave me a price I couldn't refuse and bestie Cathie just donated the Monopoly to the collection. I love the bright colors and old graphics of these games. They are fun to play too!

A lot of friends ask me what you can buy at estate sales. This was purchase from not to long ago and my kids have had a lot of fun using it. And it looks much cooler than a brand new one. Again, the RED spoke to me.

Hope your summer has gotten off to a great start! Would love to hear what you are up to and if you have found any awesome vintage finds at sales.
