Daddy Daughter Disco Dance

Our #1 Disco Diva Dotter!

In our church I serve as the President of our Primary. This is an organization that serves children 3-11. I have 3 other wonderful women who assist me as we serve these children and their families. Every year one of our activities is to have a Daddy/Daughter Dance. Last year we did a dance with the theme "Butterfly Kisses", it was very formal with corsages and a really nice dinner. This year we decided to do a "Daddy Daughter Disco Dance". It was a huge success and many families really caught the spirit of the 70's and came all decked out. My girls were beyond excited and had such a great time. I was in charge of decorations, music, lights, etc. The other ladies did the food, party favors and invitations. I am so blessed to have such wonderful women helping. I know a good time was had by all. Wanted to share some fun pics with you.

I added a record bowl I made that had gumballs and M&M's, some gold shred and the little packages are party favors with disco ball necklaces and headbands.

Artful Thursday-Little Notebooks

Do you carry around a little notebook in your purse to jot down ideas, phone numbers or whatever strikes your fancy? I do, I can't live without one. Recently I have been carrying around a little Ed Hardy one (you know the designer with the skulls, lots of bright colors, gypsies, etc) that I bought at Walmart. Okay, not so much my style. When I was sitting in a meeting with my bishop at my church and pulled it out to write some notes, it felt a little funny, this was not ME, this little notebook did not represent who I was and for some reason in that moment , that was important. I bought a few plain ones right after that (the recycled kind), but decided to add my style sense to it. I pulled some vintage fabric, some new paper doll fabric I had purchased recently and a few other vintage embellishments. I think they are pretty cute, and much more ME! Goodbye Ed Hardy!

The blank notebooks

Artful Thursday and The Glass Menagerie

I haven't had a lot of time this week to work on projects, however I did squeeze in few hours earlier on Tuesday. It seems no matter how busy I am I usually have to make something every week. Crafting is definitely my de-stresser. Here are the two little things I created. In the picture above, I took apart an old hat and came up with this interesting black headband. I just added a gorgeous vintage silk flower, a beautiful vintage rhinestone button, some tatted lace and some vintage netting. I think it looks really beautiful all put together. It would look great with a black dress.
I know everyone is making these fabric rosettes. They are so simple to make. I just used some vintage drapery fabric lying around. I tear it so I get the strings (I love the stringy look of them.) and I added some vintage rhinestone buttons for centers. You can make them into hair clips, headbands (see below) or brooches. Having 3 dotters these come in handy.
The main reason I have had no time is that I have been producing our 2nd production of the theatre I founded, Mortal Fools Theatre Project. Tonight we preview The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. It is a wonderful American Classic and so beautifully written. If you live in Utah please come and check it out. Wedding-Artful Thursday

Have you ever thought, "If I could get married again (to the same person of course! :) What would I do differently?"

Now don't get me wrong, I really loved my wedding and reception. But their are two things I would change.

First- I would have different flowers, when my husband and I moved to LA very soon after we were married I discovered the LA flower market. It was one of my most favorite places in the city. It is enchanting. When I lived there fresh flowers abounded in our home and I was really able to discover a lot of different types and combinations, especially because they are so inexpensive there. Where else could you get 2 dozen roses for $6?

Secondly- I would have had a cake topper. I just used fresh flowers on my cake, but now I think I would go for a really fun vintage looking one.

And so we come to my ARTFUL THURSDAY.

I found this cheap vintage wedding topper at a antique store for $2! Now I know it needed something. This lovely couple has been sitting on my work room shelf for months just begging me;

"Make Us Beautiful!"

I finally decided to help them out last night. It really was simple, I just pulled out all those supplies lying around and just starting experimenting. I tore off that funky shiny paper and plastic beads. I added beautiful vintage blooms, tinsel, buttons, beads and old hat netting to cover everything. In the center of the heart is an old vintage earring. I love words and turned to my cutter dictionary and inscribed on the heart:

She Saw the Future in His Eyes

Lastly I added some color around the bottom of the white lace (about the only thing I kept from the original.)

Now this is the wedding topper I would use if I could do it all over again. This year my husband and I celebrate 15 years of marriage, and I plan on many more with him. I don't see any wedding in my future anytime soon.

But don't you think it would look great on a 15 year Anniversary cake?
